Après le très polémique Épisode VIII de la saga Star Wars, le film indépendant prévu en mai prochain pourrait se transformer en accident industriel selon une source proche de la production. Et même si le réalisateur Ron Howard et le compositeur John Williams sont engagés dans cette aventure.
Le nouveau spin-off – ou film indépendant – de la saga Star Wars ne semble pas suivre les traces de son prédécesseur, Rogue One. Bien au contraire. Une source proche de la production du long-métrage a laissé fuiter des informations sur la qualité de Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Consacré au personnage de Han Solo bien avant les événements de Un Nouvel Espoir, ce «film de gangster» pourrait même devenir un accident industriel pour Disney. La firme aux grandes oreilles s’attendrait même à un échec critique et commercial. Pour rappel, depuis son rachat de à Lucasfilm en 2012 pour plus de 4 milliards de dollars, Disney a prévu de sortir un nouveau film estampillé Star Warschaque année. Une cadence infernale qui comporte des risques. À commencer par celui de lasser les fans de la saga intergalactique.
Cette source interne, rapportée par le site ScreenGeek, aurait assuré que «Disney se prépare à ce que le film se fasse allumer. Ils étaient inquiets à ce sujet, avant même la controverse autour des Derniers Jedi, mais maintenant ils se préparent au pire».

Une source proche de la production
Ce témoin bien informé a ensuite ajouté que l’acteur principal Alden Ehrenreichne «ne sait pas jouer», et qu’il avait besoin d’un coach en dialogues pour chacune de ses scènes. «En plus de cela, le script est irréalisable. Ça va être un carambolage», a-t-il ajouté. Des déclarations d’autant plus inquiétantes que la sortie du spin-off intervient dans un contexte de fragilité pour la marque Star Wars, après la forte division qui a marqué les fans lors de la sortie de l’Épisode VIII, Les Derniers Jedi. Beaucoup avaient crié à la trahison des valeurs Star Wars – un fan lançant même une pétitionpour retirer le volet de la saga. En France, malgré ces critiques, le film s’est tout de même hissé à la première place du box-office en 2017!
Des signes annonciateurs
Les amateurs de la saga avaient déjà eu vent de quelques mauvais signaux de la part de la production de Solo: A Star Wars Story. Les réalisateurs Phil Lord et Chris Miller, initialement metteurs en scène du film, ont été virés du projet pour une vision artistique trop différente des patrons de Lucasfilm, selon leurs propres mots. Ils ont été remplacés par un réalisateur plus connu sans doute mais peut-être plus conventionnel: Ron Howard. De plus, cinq semaines de reshoots supplémentaires ont été ordonnées, de nombreuses scènes étant à refaire.
Seule note positive à l’horizon, le compositeur historique (et oscarisé) de Star Wars, John Williams, réalisera le thème musical du héros du film, Han Solo. Une collaboration de marque dont n’avait pas bénéficié Rogue One. Le premier spin-off de la saga avait cependant connu un accueil critique et commercial excellent, alors que, lui aussi, avait nécessité des reshoots exigés par LucasFilm. Pour rappel, le troisième spin-off Star Wars portera sur le Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, disciple de Qui-Gon Jinn, maître d’un certain Anakin Skywalker et mentor de Luke. Il sera réalisé par Stephen Daldry, metteur en scène de Billy Elliot et de The Hours. Sortie prévue courant 2020.
Quant à Solo: A Star Wars Story, cette production compliquée verra enfin le jour au lendemain du Festival de Cannes, le 23 mai prochain. May the force be with him!

VIDÉO – L’année 2017 s’achève bien pour les studios Disney. Le film Les Derniers Jedi a dépassé la barre du milliard de dollars de recettes dans le monde, avant même sa sortie en Chine.
Les Derniers Jedi sont déjà les premiers au box-office mondial. Star Wars, épisode VIII finit l’année en pulvérisant la barre du milliard de dollars de recettes dans le monde après seulement trois semaines en salles, ont annoncé dimanche les studios Disney qui attendent de nouveaux revenus avec sa sortie prochaine en Chine.
Le huitième épisode de la saga intergalactique, créée par George Lucas en 1977, a engrangé 517,1 millions de dollars depuis sa sortie il y a trois semaines dans les salles d’Amérique du Nord, où il reste installé à la première place du box-office, et 523,3 millions de dollars dans le reste du monde, selon les estimations de Disney portant jusqu’à dimanche 31 décembre 2017. Toujours selon la même source, Star Wars: Les Derniers Jedi serait également numéro 1 en Europe.
Ces recettes en font «la 24e meilleure sortie mondiale de tous les temps», précise le communiqué, soulignant que le film «poursuit son avancée mondiale avant sa sortie en Chine le 5 janvier». Le film Avatar (2009) détient toujours le record de recettes mondiales, avec 2,7 milliards de dollars. Et en Amérique du Nord, Star Wars VIII arrache la première place des meilleures sorties enregistrées en 2017 à La Belle et la Bête, selon Disney. D’après le site spécialisé Deadline.com, les studios Disney sont les seuls à avoir dépassé les 5 milliards de dollars de recettes mondiales au cours des trois dernières années.

Regardless of how you feel about the prequels or the special additions of the original trilogy, you can’t detract from the fact that George Lucas created arguably the most popular science fiction franchise of all time. That being said, Star Wars fans across the galaxy should take great comfort in knowing that Lucas has nothing but kind words to say about the latest addition to the saga, The Last Jedi.
After attending a screening of the film, Lucas said he thought it was “beautifully made,” his rep Connie Wethington told The Hollywood Reporter. “And in speaking with director Rian Johnson after viewing was complimentary,” she then added.
Lucas isn’t alone in his enjoyment of the film. Those lucky enough to get an early look at The Last Jedi have showered the space opera with near-universal praise, with some going as far as to call it the best Star Wars film to date. On top of that, The Last Jedi is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting an impressive 93% rating on the review aggregate website.
While the early reactions to The Last Jedi certainly bode well for director Rian Johnson, they aren’t that surprising, given recent events. Over one month before the official world premiere, Lucasfilm announced that Johnson would creatively oversee a new trilogy of Star Wars films, with the press release noting that “As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud.”
The depiction of Mark Hamill’s aging Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedihas been a point of contention for a number of longtime fans. In fact, it even sparked a petition to remove the eighth chapter of the saga from Star Wars canon for “[destroying] the legacy of Luke Skywalker and the Jedi.” However, it isn’t just fans who’ve taken exception with writer/director Rian Johnson’s handling of Luke, as even the actor himself is still struggling to come to terms with his character’s portrayal in the film.
“I said to Rian, I said ‘Jedis don’t give up’,” Hamill explained in an interview currently making the rounds on YouTube. “I mean even if he had a problem, maybe take a year to try and regroup… but if he made a mistake he would try and right that wrong, so right there, we had a fundamental difference, but, it’s not my story anymore. It’s somebody else’s story, and Rian needed me to be a certain way to make the ending effective.”
“That’s the crux of my problem,” he continued. “Luke would never say that. I’m sorry. Well, in this version, see. I’m talking about the George Lucas Star Wars. This is the next generation of Star Wars, so I almost had to think of Luke as another character. Maybe he’s ‘Jake’ Skywalker, he’s not my Luke Skywalker.”
Nevertheless, despite Hamill’s obvious frustration, he would go on to say, “I still haven’t accepted it completely, but it’s only a movie. I hope people like it, I hope they don’t get upset, and I came to really believe that Rian was the exact man that they needed for this job.”
Hamill’s concerns with how Johnson chose to depict Luke in The Last Jedi are well-documented. In an interview back in May, Hamill noted that he told Johnson, “I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character.” He would downplay those remarks the following month, but even at a press junket just days before The Last Jedi‘s theatrical release, Hamill would reiterate that his and Johnson’s vision for Luke simply didn’t line up.

However, given the stuff that goes around on that show, it’s probably for the best that on the screen they don’t look quite human.
12. MOANA / VAIANA
Algerian artist Ramzy Kamen created this amazing version of a grown up Moana sunbathing in the ocean with her pet rooster Heihei and pet pig Pua. Since sequels are never off the table with Disney, it’s not entirely impossible that one day we really get to see a grown up Moana in a movie.
6. KIM POSSIBLE
The talented artist Rosso Winch created an incredible adult version of the high school cheerleader moonlighting as a crimefighter. Kim is all grown up now and judging by this fanart she may well be an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. But in all seriousness, a more serious and edgy version of the Kim Possible cartoon might not be such a horrible idea, if done right.
5. DEXTER AND DEE DEE
In case you ever wanted to know what these two would look like all grown up, the talented artist Emilyena did an amazing take on Dexter and Dee Dee as adults. Dee Dee looks as crazy as ever and Dexter turned quite dashing with his beard and smug look.
3. ANOTHER ASH KETCHUM
n 1997, Ash was introduced as a ten-year-old boy and ten years later he’s still a ten-year-old boy. While we prefer Ash to stay a ten-year-old, we can’t help but wonder what he would look like all grown up. This bearded take on an adult Ash was masterfully created by the talented DeviantArt member ovolon.
2. DASH (THE INCREDIBLES)
This amazing version of an adult Dash comes from concept artist Mark Yong. We have to admit, this older version of Dash kind of reminds us of Quicksilver because of the hairstyle. Perhaps a third installment in The Incredibles franchise can focus on the grown up versions of Violet and Dash. That would be one hell of a movie.
